FAQ about Research Team Leader Vacancy
The advertisement for the position says that the position is permanent, but also that it is funded through Horizon Europe. I’m not sure I understand how that works as I think of EU funding as project-based, or otherwise time limited. Would you be able to clarify that for me, so I can get a clear picture of what the position offers?
The position of CETE-P Research Team Leader is a permanent one, since it will continue even after the Horizon Europe project CETE-P (2023-2027) is ended, with the financial support from the institutional budget of the Institute of Philosophy, CAS. The aim of this policy is to ensure the sustainability of the Center and its research focus after the termination of the project.
However, please note that the advertised salary (CZK 1mil+ gross annually) consists of the contractual wage (60%) and the adjustable wage component (40%). The Institute of Philosophy can guarantee only the contractual component after the end of 2027. Thus, we expect the successful candidate to be able to secure follow-up project funding to complement the contractual wage and increase her/his salary even above the wage level offered in the current call. It is also possible to increase the salary already during the present project by acquiring additional project funding on top of the current one (e.g., through the Czech Science Foundation).
Are there any particular research strands that CETE-P is planning to focus on or any specific activities that it is particularly keen to invest in (research funding, teaching or outreach)?
CETE-P’s unique research focus is on the intersection between environmental ethics and technology ethics. Any relevant research topics/strands in this domain are welcome. All applicants are encouraged to come up with their own original research agenda. CETE-P’s mission lies in research and outreach activities (no teaching).

FAQ about PhD Researcher Vacancy
You say that the project must be supervised by a research team member of the center. My question is that if this supervisor will be only Mark Coeckelbergh or if we’ll be working also with another specific member of the center that will be assigned after the postulation. Do I have to contact the researchers before my postulation?
Any member of the CETE-P research team including Mark Coeckelbergh can become your supervisor. Research oriented CETE-P work package leaders (Martin Ritter, Tomáš Hříbek, Juraj Hvorecký, Petr Urban) can also become supervisors. It is not necessary to indicate a preferred supervisor in your PhD research proposal, but you can do that if you want. You don’t have to contact the researchers before your admission, a supervisor would be assigned to you later on.
Does part of the relocation assistance include some help with the costs of the flight to Prague?
No, the relocation assistance doesn’t include any help with the costs of the flight to Prague. It includes administrative assistance related to VISA application, search for accommodation etc.
Could it be of any advantage, if I submit my application at an earlier point?
No, all complete applications submitted by the deadline of 30 November 2023 will receive equal treatment.
Does the topic of environmental spirituality fit in the research profile of CETE-P?
Any relevant topic in the field of environmental and/or technology ethics is welcome. We don’t provide any further information about CETE-P’s research preferences beyond what is stated in the advertisement and on the CETE-P website.
I have recently completed doctoral studies in philosophy (August 2023). Could you please let me know if I am eligible to apply for this vacancy, with the hope of pursuing post-doctoral studies, instead of a PhD as advertised?
No, you are not eligible. The position is open to PhD candidates only.
