This article provides a short reply to Isaac Taylor's recent "Collective Responsibility and Artificial Intelligence", published in Philosophy & Technology. The main aim of the article is to highlight an important point for emerging technologies in the military, namely that for all of the hype around "autonomous" weapons, there will in almost all cases be a human (or multiple people) who are ultimately and obviously responsible for deployment decisions and everything following from those. The article makes clear that Isaac's own piece provides rich exploration of interesting philosophical issues relating to responsibility attribution in war, but reiterates that such discussions must be had with a clear appreciation of the realities of both war and the military institutions which carry out that enterprise.
