Tomáš Hříbek is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of Czech Academy of Sciences, where he is Head of Department of Applied Philosophy and Ethics. Hříbek is also a founding member of the Karel Čapek Center for Values in Science and Technology, an interdisciplinary platform for the study of the ethical issues of emerging technologies. At CETE-P, he is Leader of Work Package 3, which focuses on research excellence.
Hříbek has published on topics ranging from philosophy of mind and science, to ethics and aesthetics. More recently he branched out to technology ethics. His publications include monographs on intentionality (Metafyzika antiindividualismu, Filosofia 2008), phenomenal consciousness (Jaké to je, nebo o čem to je? Místo vědomí v materiálním světě, Filosofia 2017), and the ethics of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide (Obrana asitované smrti: Filozofické argumenty na podporu eutanazie a sebeusmrcení za pomoci lékaře, Academia 2021), and an edited volume on the ethical issues of autonomous cars (Autonomous Vehicles Ethics: The Trolley Problem and Beyond, co-edited with Ryan Jenkins and David Černý, Oxford University Press 2022).
Hříbek teaches at several colleges, including Charles University and Anglo-American University, in his hometown of Prague.
