Sven Nyholm is a Professor of the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He is the author of This is Technology Ethics: An Introduction and Humans and Robots: Ethics, Agency, and Anthropomorphism.

Abstract:

Recently, it has become possible to fine-tune large language models in such a way that their outputs sound like the writings of particular people. For example, with the late philosopher Daniel Dennett's consent and participation, three researchers were able to create an AI chatbot whose outputs sounded indistinguishable from what Dennett might say. In my presentation, I will discuss the ethics of creating AI technologies that imitate particular people. I will consider both whether it is permissible and whether it is desirable to create such digital duplicates of real people.
