Abstract:
The urban lifeworld is formed as a constellation of human design and elements that are beyond human control. How we perceive and evaluate cities and how they enable our lives is indicative of these forces at play. It is thus not insignificant what types of experiences and evaluations cities evoke, to some extent they are also a reflection of the underlying values at stake. In this talk, I outline recent developments in the contemporary study of the aesthetic dimension of urban environments. The aim is to show how the approach combines facets from both environmental and more technology-focused strands in philosophy.
